Jesus the Way - The Child's Guide to Heaven
Edward Payson Hammond (1831-1910) spent most of his life seeking to speak to children about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus the Way is one of the most precious of his more than 100 books and tracts.
From the very first page the author speaks directly to the mind and heart of children. He knew children and understood how to speak and write that they would listen, and listen with both ears. There is a directness about each line that causes the reader to feel as if he is the only one in the world the writer has in mind. This book also takes the matters of sin and salvation very seriously. Too often in books for children in our day the subject of sin and salvation is almost ignored. Modern writers seem to feel that you cannot say too much about sin because it would turn away today's child. Jesus the Way is filled with Scripture language and Scripture examples. Mr. Hammond believed that "Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." He also believed that "God's Word will not return unto Him void, but will accomplish that which He pleases, and shall prosper in the thing unto which He sent it." The reader is left with no doubt about the truth of God's Word, found in the 66 Books of the Bible.
